Mitsubishi L200 ‘Desert Warrior’ takes on the world’s biggest sand dunes
THE full story of how Mitsubishi Motors in the UK and Top Gear magazine joined forces to conquer Namibia’s unforgiving sea of sand can now be enjoyed in the Jan 2018 issue of the best-selling title.
To tackle the world’s tallest sand dunes, Mitsubishi Motors in the UK and the magazine’s Tom Ford worked together to build the ultimate Mitsubishi L200 – the ‘Desert Warrior’.
Unveiled at last year’s Commercial Vehicle Show and codenamed ‘Project Swarm’ by Top Gear, the Mitsubishi L200 is built in the style of a Pre-Runner’ off-road vehicle – specially modified production vehicles that are beefed-up to ‘pre-run’ stages of off-road desert racers.
The 10-page article charts how the highly-modified ‘Desert Warrior’ faired on some of the harshest terrain on earth, a journey that included driving through seemingly unpassable gorges, searching for elephants, jumping dunes, circling lions, a lost wheel and sand as far as the eye can see.
The January 2018 issue of Top Gear is on the shelves now.
