A HEBBURN electrician has won a competition to go on a hybrid adventure in the Lake District — just by taking a test drive in a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.

Richard Straughan won the weekend break to Windemere’s Hillthwaite Hotel after experiencing the UK’s best-selling plug-in hybrid vehicle at Vic Young Mitsubishi in Newcastle Road, South Shields.

As part of its special event where it promoted the efficiency and environmental compatibility of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, the dealership entered everyone who took a test drive into a draw to win the two-night stay, which includes a three-course dinner and a complimentary boat tour of the legendary lake.

To go with the prize, Vic Young Mitsubishi is also supplying Richard and his wife Karen with a top-of-the-range Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV to use for their weekend away.

Richard, 55, said: “I was very surprised to hear I’d won and it’s something my wife and I are looking forward to – the hotel looks really nice! I’ve had a number of cars from Vic Young and lately I’ve been thinking a lot more about getting a vehicle that is more environmentally-friendly, so I thought I would give the PHEV a try. I found it nice to drive and was really quite impressed.”

Vic Young, Managing Director, said: “Our Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Re-Launch Week was a great success, we had some terrific feedback about the PHEV and its hybrid technology. Many people commented on how smooth and quiet it was to drive and its impressive interior specification. Congratulations to Richard on winning his prize, we hope he has a lovely time and enjoys driving the PHEV again!”

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV offers the best pure EV range of any of its direct competitors, has the lowest emissions of any all-wheel drive vehicle and remains amongst the lowest-emitting vehicles in the plug-in hybrid segment. It is also the only AWD vehicle to utilise electric power to drive both front and rear wheels for superior traction both on and off the road even in pure electric mode. It is also the only Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle to offer rapid charging (up to 80% in approximately 25 minutes) and five-mode adjustable regenerative braking, which is controlled via the steering wheel paddles to further enhance the driving experience.
