Mary King and Rosemary Shrager cook up a storm
VISITORS to the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials 2017 enjoyed a tasty celebrity treat as Olympic equestrian Mary King and renowned chef Rosemary Shrager joined forces for a unique challenge.
In addition to meeting fans and signing autographs, the Mitsubishi Motors brand ambassadors took to the manufacturer’s impressive stand for a fun pork pie challenge, which saw Rosemary judge a pork pie that Mary had made to the chef’s recipe.
Badminton legend and Olympian Mary said: “Making the pie went very smoothly once I’d found a trotter to make the jelly – I had to visit four butchers before I got one!”
Television chef Rosemary, who is a regular visitor to Badminton, added: “It’s the real deal, I’m so proud of Mary. It’s absolutely brilliant!”
Lance Bradley, Managing Director of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, also tasted the specially-baked pie. “It’s actually one of my favourite foods and this one tastes fantastic,” he said.
The event marks Mary’s 32nd year of attending Badminton and she was once again delighted to return to the iconic three-day event that is a firmly established highlight on the global equestrian calendar. She was joined by daughter and fellow Mitsubishi Motors in the UK brand ambassador Emily King, who has also ridden at Badminton and is the patron of the Mitsubishi Motors Cup – the competition which gives amateur riders the chance to compete over the same famous parkland as the international riders.
Mary, who was signing copies of her book ‘My Way – how I train for success’, said: “It’s wonderful to be back and each year it’s just as exciting. It’s the biggest spectator event and the atmosphere is amazing – it’s the cream of the cream, there’s nothing else quite like it.”
Tania Gorton had come all the way from Sydney, Australia with her children, Poppie, 8, Ruby, 11 and her Mum to take in the delights of Badminton. With the family visiting the iconic event for the first time and the girls both keen eventers, they were thrilled to talk to Mary and Emily.
“We’re huge fans of Mary and Emily and meeting them has really made our first visit. We really didn’t expect to see them and it’s just added to the fun.”
