JOURNALISTS from leading automotive title Auto Express were able to get behind the wheel of a prototype of the vehicle ahead of its unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

Despite the heavy disguise, their reporter noted, “It’s clear the high-riding machine will have looks on its side.”

He also recognised the efforts made by Mitsubishi on the interior, with a sculpted dash design and new infotainment system with crisp graphics and a responsive touch screen.

The model tested featured a new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, an automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.

In the review, Auto Express said it had “strong body control and composure” and was “smooth and refined.”

Its verdict was: “Our drive shows the new Mitsubishi has real potential. If it looks as good as our image suggests, the cabin is up to scratch and the [pre-production] niggles are cured, this agile crossover could outstrip the brand’s current successes.”

The article, which can be viewed here, appears in this week’s Auto Express magazine, including a new image of the vehicle on the cover.
